Financial Assistance for Workshops

Hoogstraal fund

Limited financial assistance may be available to graduate students or international participants through the Harry Hoogstraal Memorial Fund. Assistance is in the form of a partial fee waiver. Travel or per diem funds are not available. Application requirements:

  • A written statement by the applicant addressing both need and on how the workshop(s) will augment your career.
  • A letter, fax or e-mail by the applicant's advisor or supervisor addressing the scholarly potential of the applicant in acarology and his/her financial need.

Acarology Development Foundation endowment

An endowment fund has been established at OSU by the members of the Acarology Development Foundation. The annual award(s) are intended to help students get training in acarology, especially in taxonomy. Application is open to all participants although preference will be given to young acarologists and participants from developing countries. Assistance is in the form of a partial fee waiver. Travel or per diem funds are not available.  Application requirements: as for Hoogstraal fund.

Wharton Fund

An endowment fund was established at OSU by the founder of the Acarology Summer Program, the late George Wharton. This endowment funds a single $1,000 scholarship to encourage promising researchers in acarology to participate in the Summer Program. The award is based on merit only. Application is open to all participants although some preference may be given to young acarologists. Assistance is in the form of a (partial) fee waiver. Travel or per diem funds are not available. Application requirements:

  • A written statement explaining how attendance at the workshop(s) will augment your career.
  • A CV or other summary of background, interests and accomplishments (publications, presentations, grants)
  • A letter, fax or e-mail by the student's advisor or supervisor addressing the scholarly potential of the applicant in acarology.

Application to all sources of funding is allowed and encouraged, but an individual can only receive one award / scholarship in a given year.
